Australia…

Tomorrow our country takes a day aside to celebrate Australia Day…
There are many things that I love about living in Australia.

I love the vast open spaces…the long, hot summers, the mixture of many cultures, the freedom I have in so many ways…to be a woman of faith…to have an education…

…and living on the world’s largest island does have its perks…the beach, the reefs, the surf…

I am also reminded of the many individuals and families who have fled their countries of origin to live in Australian and seek shelter from persecution and to start again.

My amazing friends (above) literally fled for their lives and after living for many years in different refugee camps with their four children in a room not much bigger than a double bed they have found refuge in Australia.

I am thankful that Australia can be a place where a refuge is found and a new beginning has begun…
